Almero Strauss: Executive Chairman
Almero is a director and has been an executive member of the Mergon Group's investment team since 2008. Mergon is a private investment group that was founded in 1980. From a single, start-up business Mergon has grown into a diversified investment portfolio with significant interests in companies in the technology, commercial property, financial services, fintech, renewable energy and logistics industries. Almero looks after and represents Mergon on the Board of Infotech (one of South Africa’s oldest IT companies).
Almero also represents Mergon on the Boards of Mobile Data (develops and manages TradeSwitch®, a virtual product distribution platform), Renewable Energy Holdings (the foremost independent developer and long-term investor in the hydropower sector in South Africa), and Mertech Marine (a world leader in the recovery, dismantling and recycling of out-of-service deep sea telecommunication cables).
Having initially qualified and worked as an electronic engineer, Almero also obtained pre and postgraduate accountancy qualifications from the University of Cape Town before launching his career in strategy and management consulting. During his career Almero has worked with leading international firms Bain & Company and Deloitte in South Africa and the USA. Almero was also a founding member of Decipher Consulting, a South African niche consulting firm, where he was an executive director of the business. Almero is a member of the Audit and Risk and Remuneration Committees.
Vivienne Selzer: Chief Financial Officer
Vivienne Selzer is the Chief Operating and Financial Officer and is responsible for driving operational outcomes and revenue globally. He was previously the Asia Pacific Regional CFO at Cushman & Wakefield and was responsible for the overall management of all financial, commercial and operational aspects of UGL Services / DTZ / Cushman & Wakefield’s combined property business across this region. At UGL Services / DTZ / Cushman & Wakefield, Vivienne managed the finance and commercial functions across 15 countries and was instrumental in the post-acquisition integration of DTZ into UGL Services and the financial merger of Cushman & Wakefield and DTZ in the region. Vivienne also lead multiple ERP upgrades, client migrations, back office automation, profit improvement and other diverse projects. Before that, Vivienne was at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Vivienne is an entrepreneurial, hands-on, innovative and results driven, commercially astute finance executive with more than 15 years’ experience in senior finance rolls in large and complex matrix businesses. He has a proven ability to deliver positive strategies and outcomes in business growth, profitability and operational performance. He is strategic, resourceful and a commercially astute leader with broad based experience in finance, accounting, management, governance, risk, safety, systems, M&A, planning, business integration, shared services, procurement, facilities management, leasing, contracting, process change and process improvement and is an experienced CFO and commercial manager.
Vivienne has a Honours Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town and is a Chartered Accountant in Australia and South Africa.
David Bugden: Chief Commercial Officer (Strata)
David Bugden is the Chief Commercial Officer (Strata) and is responsible for Urbanise’s Australian and worldwide strata markets. He is responsible for the strategy, sales, product development and customer service of the company’s largest division in terms of customers and revenue. Prior to his role as CCO, David has held the roles of Chief Strategy Officer and Global Head of Strata for Urbanise.
David is an entrepreneurial leader with over 20 years’ experience in the property, legal and technology sectors. David has held roles as a strata lawyer, development consultant, joint-CEO of a 25,000-unit strata business in Sydney and CEO of a Dubai-based property services company. Most of David’s career however has been running technology companies. In the late 1990’s, David developed Australia’s first internet-based (ASP) strata system. He later implemented the industry’s first CRM system on an IBM platform for a large strata company. Prior to his role at Urbanise, David was Group CEO for 12 years for Mystrata.com, an innovative cloud tech company specialising in real estate management with offices in Australia, Dubai, South Africa and Malaysia.
David holds degrees in law and commerce and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He is also a licensed strata manager.
Saurabh Jain: Chief Commercial Officer (Facilities)
Saurabh Jain is the Chief Commercial Officer (Facilities) and is responsible for Urbanise’s – Facilities, Assets, and Analytics business. Saurabh overseas all aspects from strategy to sales, product development and customer service.
With 20 years of experience in technology related roles, including the last 10 years in property management & services sectors, Saurabh brings to Urbanise a large depth of knowledge and connections. After more than 5 years in Sydney and New York as a solutions director for Converga, Saurabh joined Cushman and Wakefield (Cushman) in 2013. Cushman is the world’s second largest property management organisation, with 45,000 employees in 52 countries. At Cushman, Saurabh held the role of Chief Information Officer, Australia and New Zealand, and later took on the role of Global Technology Director, Customer Portals and Analytics. More recently Saurabh has been heading up the Solutions Centre at Ventia, Australia’s largest services company.
Saurabh holds a B.E. Software Engineering from UNSW, a MBA Executive from AGSM, and a MBT from AGSM.
Heinrich Venter: Head of Convergent Solutions
Heinrich Venter is the Head of Convergent Solutions and is responsible for growing the business through its Smart Utilities, eCommerce and IOT solutions.
Heinrich started his career as an IT support engineer in one of the first ISP’s in South Africa, part of Telkom, the only fixed line operator in the country at the time. He continued his career filling a number of specialist and senior IT positions, leading teams and projects in the support and deployment of IT systems in financial organisations like Munich Re-insurance (South Africa) and the South African Revenue Services.
In 2010, Heinrich founded a technology start-up which specialised in the delivery of IT solutions and services (IBM, EMC/Dell, VMware) to large organisations. In 2013 he sold the business to Infotech (one of South Africa’s oldest IT companies) and was appointed as Infotech’s CEO and served as executive director on the Infotech board. Infotech delivered software development projects, with a strong focus on utilities management and locations-based services technologies which was acquired by Urbanise in 2017.
